Nominees Announced For The Sailor Jerry Rolling Stone Australia Awards

On 31 March, the Sailor Jerry Rolling Stone Australia Awards will be celebrating the achievements of the breadth of Australian musicians from what has been a trying and unpredictable 2020.

Today, Rolling Stone Australia has revealed the nominees for the event, paying homage to the year that was in music.

The Brag Media, Australia’s number one music and entertainment publisher, is delighted to partner with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, and has confirmed a physical event with an invite-only audience will take place at The Argyle, in Sydney.

Following a nominations process which saw subscribers to The Industry Observer have their say across four of the five awards categories, today’s announcement sees a broad range of genres represented across Best Record, Best Single, Best New Artist, Rolling Stone Global Award, and the Rolling Stone Reader’s Award.

Across the five award categories, Perth’s Tame Impala are up for three Rolling Stone Australia Awards for Best Record for their fourth album, The Slow Rush, as well as the Rolling Stone Global Award, and the Rolling Stone Reader’s Award.

Other multi-award nominees include indie-pop artist E^ST, genre chameleon Tkay Maidza, sibling duo Lime Cordiale, global pop icon Sia, hip-hop export The Kid LAROI, and psych-rock “one person band” Tash Sultana, with two nominations each.

The Rolling Stone Global Award will be judged by Rolling Stone’s global staff members to acknowledge the Australian artist they just can’t get enough of. They’ll be hard pressed to pick a winner with global exports 5 Seconds Of Summer, Keith Urban, Tame Impala, Tash Sultana, The Kid LAROI, Tones And I, Troye Sivan, and Sia all nominated.

The Rolling Stone Reader’s Award nominees will be decided on by Rolling Stone Australia’s magazine subscribers, with official voting opening soon. Additional to determining an award winner, Rolling Stone Australia subscribers who vote are given the chance to attend the awards ceremony in Sydney.

The Reader’s Award nominees include Brisbane’s Ball Park Music, who entered a new music era in October with the release of their self-titled sixth album; Perth-based Grammy nominees Tame Impala, Brisbane’s Washington, who re-emerged this year with her first album in six years, and Sydney’s Lime Cordiale, who were nominated for eight ARIA Awards this year thanks to second album 14 Steps To A Better You.

“While 2020 will be remembered as the year that tipped the music industry on its axis, the music that has been released is nothing short of astonishing,” The Brag Media managing editor Poppy Reid said.

“I believe the incredible breadth of Australia’s music talent is reflected in these nominees and I’m so looking forward to celebrating each and every one of them at the Rolling Stone Australia Awards in March.

“I’m also thrilled that our judging panel consists of Rolling Stone’s global editors, who represent the brand in 13 countries,” Reid added. “To place local music front and centre with some of the world’s best music observers across the globe is so exciting as we believe every single nominee is a powerful export.”
